Webmaster Career

I have chosen the web developing career because that is the career that I want in life. To plan for this career, I will take computer courses in high school. Although, I don’t know if I should take the HTML course, seeing that I know a majority of it already. For college, a four year would be best, but a technical college may be O.K.. For most of the jobs out there, you need a degree in computer science. You also need knowledge on HTML, DHTML. JAVA, and other programming languages. You also need to know how to use programs such a Adobe PhotoShop, and have good graphic design skills. I don’t know if you would need an advanced degree or not. I think you need bachelor’s degree, although I am not certain. If you do, you may get a little higher salary. You also need relevant work experience.

The responsibilities for this career may differ from company to company. For the most part, you will maintain and update the companies web site(s). You also do day to day site design and creation. Some jobs also have you monitor web site security and access. It is harder than you think to get everything to look perfect and nice. For most jobs in this field, you work a 40-hour week, usually in offices.

The outlook for this jobs and others in this field is very good. The field is projected to be the fastest growing through 2008. So there should be a lot of job openings. That may also be the last year of my college education too, so that is another good thing.

The usual salary that I found was around the $40,000 range. There is probably higher pay in certain states because the demand might be bigger in larger and more complex states, like California or New York. There aren’t any really special benefits besides the 401k and the usual stuff in most cases.

I think that being a webmaster is a pretty cool job. It would be a good career for me to get into because I love computers and the Internet. I already have one site of my own on-line, and I am in the process of making another. So I already have some of the knowledge that I need for the job.
